Smart Notebook allows you to record a lesson, including all the screen changes, pen moves, and basically everything you do in the smart notebook then play it back to be used at any time. There are two different options for recording.

  • Page Recording
  • Smart Recorder

Page Recording

You can record any thing you do on a particular page for play back within the Smart Notebook. To do this click on a blank space in your work area. Click on the Properties tab. The Page Recording heading should appear there.

Choose Start Recording when you are ready to record. While recording you will see a large red REC placed in the upper left hand corner of the work area. This will not appear when playing back.

When finished, you can either switch to another page or chose Stop Recording from the Page Recording menu in the Properties Tab to end the recording.

Clicking Play will let you watch whatever you did while recording. At the bottom of the work area the following playback toolbar will appear:

This will give you options of rewinding, pausing, playing or stopping the playback. This tool bar will remain there until you click the Red X which will remove the recording from the page. Saving your notebook file will save the recording as well.

Smart Recorder

The Smart Recorder is a separate program within Smart Notebook that allows you to record any process you do on your computer (inside or outside of Notebook) and plays it back as a .wmv file that can be played in Smart Video Player or in a separate video player such as Windows Media Player.

To open the Smart Recorder you can either click on the Smart Icon in the lower right hand side and chose Recorder... or open Start > Programs > Smart Technologies > Smart Notebook > Smart Recorder

You can also add a Smart Recorder icon to your Smart Toolbar by right clicking a blank space in the toolbar and choosing the Smart Recorder icon.

Once opened the Smart Recorder window appears. It appears on top of all windows but can be minimized in Windows.

Depending on how long your video is the longer the creation process takes. When finished the video will appear.

To playback you can click on the file depending on where you saved it. Normally it will default to Windows Media Player. You can also playback in the Smart Video Player.

Smart Video Player

The Smart Video Player is a video playback program that is installed with Smart Notebook but works independently of it. You can open Smart Video Player by either clicking on the Smart Icon in the lower right hand side or going through the Start > Programs > Smart Technologies > Smart Notebook > Smart Video Player. Like the Smart Recorder you can add an icon to the Smart Toolbar.

Smart Video Player works like any other Video playback program. You can create playlists and playback at full screen.
